Entering and leaving Amsterdam station

Travelling on direct Eurostar trains between Amsterdam and London

If you’re travelling on a direct train to London, you won’t need to scan your ticket at the station’s ticket gates. Enter the station via the main entrance ('Centrum zijde') and follow the signs for the ‘UK Terminal’. Access via ‘IJzijde’ is also possible but less direct.

If you’re travelling on a direct train from London, you’ll need to scan your ticket's QR code at the station’s ticket gates to exit. We recommend downloading your ticket the day before travel.

Travelling between Amsterdam and Antwerp, Brussels or Paris (or London with a change in Brussels)

To enter or leave Amsterdam Centraal, you’ll need to scan your ticket's QR code at the station’s ticket gates. We recommend downloading your ticket the day before travel

Additional information for smartphone users

If you store bank card(s) digitally in your phone wallet, we recommend that you save your ticket to your Google/Apple Wallet or print it out. Alternatively, you can disable contactless payments (sometimes referred to as NFC) on your phone.

Why?
The station’s ticket gates are set up to read both QR codes on tickets and digital bank cards, enabling commuters to tap in and out. Occasionally, these gates may read a bank card stored on a phone rather than an on-screen image of your ticket’s QR code. This will result in an incorrect payment of up to €20. Following our advice will help ensure that your ticket is scanned correctly and prevent undue charges.

What if I’ve been charged in error?
Payments taken at Dutch stations’ ticket gates are managed by OVpay. Please visit the OVpay website to find out how to get a refund.
