Guide and assistance dogs - Eurostar Help Centre

Guide and assistance dogs

We welcome assistance dogs on board. Handlers wishing to travel with an assistance dog, whose dog is not trained by an organisation that is affiliated to or is a member of one of these organisations:

  • Assistance Dogs UK

  • Assistance Dogs Europe

  • Assistance Dogs International

  • International Guide Dog federation

are required to provide relevant information and necessary documentation to support their application to travel. The application is submitted on the basis that the Assistance Dog is trained to assist a person with a disability to alleviate the effects of the disability (or is being trained to do so).

You can get in touch with our team by calling +44(0) 3432 186 186 (choose option four) or emailing contactus@eurostar.com for more information.

Where can I take my guide or assistance dog?
Registered guide and assistance dogs are very welcome on these Eurostar routes:

  • London or Ebbsfleet <> Paris
  • London or Ebbsfleet <> Brussels
  • London or Ebbsfleet <> Lille
  • London or Ebbsfleet <> Calais
  • London <> Rotterdam/Amsterdam* (Holland to the UK is sold as 2 segments on Thalys and Eurostar)

You can board the train at Ashford International but you'll only be able to return to the UK via St Pancras International or Ebbsfleet International. This is because the authorities can only carry out their checks on your dog's documents in London and Ebbsfleet at the moment.

We can only accept four guide or assistance dogs on each Eurostar train. So please remember when booking to let us know that your dog is travelling too, or we may not have room for you both on the train.

Assistance dogs are not allowed to travel on our routes to Lyon, Avignon and Marseille, on our ski train to Bourg-St-Maurice.

What documents will I need?
You'll need to show specific documents when leaving or entering the UK with your guide or assistance dog. If you don't have these, your dog may have to be put in quarantine. It's entirely up to you to make sure that you have all the necessary paperwork with you.

For more information, please contact DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs):

  • Tel: +44 (0)370 241 1710
(Monday to Friday, 08.00 -18.00 UK time, closed on bank holidays)

How do I book?
It's important that you book a ticket in advance for both you and your guide or assistance dog. There is no charge for your dog's ticket.

Don't forget to mention your dog when booking or we may not have space for you both on board.

You can book your journey in any of our stations or by calling us on:

  • +44 (0)3448 224 777

Can I travel with a two-legged companion?
If you're not travelling with your guide or assistance dog but would still like someone to come with you to lend a helping hand, we offer a reduced companion fare to the person accompanying you. This is limited to one companion fare per person, and you'll need to travel together on all parts of your Eurostar journey.

Please ask about this when you make your own booking, as companion fares can't be booked separately.
